Korea Airports Corporation to Apply 'Digital Twin' to Air Force as Well

MOU for BIM-Based Digital Twin Technology Exchange

Korea Airports Corporation's 'Digital Twin' technology will also be applied to the Air Force. It is expected to enable more efficient management of Air Force airports and base facilities.

On the 3rd, Korea Airports Corporation announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for digital twin technology exchange and mutual cooperation based on Building Information Modeling (BIM) with the Air Force at the Air Force Headquarters in Gyeryongdae, Chungnam.

Korea Airports Corporation's BIM-based digital twin technology can replicate and manage every detail of a real building in a digital space, down to a single pillar or tile.

Through this agreement, the two organizations plan to build a BIM platform for existing military airports and base facilities to improve facility management efficiency and establish a BIM operation plan for Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport.

The corporation has established a standard system by obtaining the international standard certification for airport BIM (ISO19650, 2020), and in September, it opened the 'KAC BIM Center'?the first among public institutions?to provide foundational airport BIM technology education, research and development, and revenue generation systems.

Lee Jeong-gi, Acting President of Korea Airports Corporation, stated, "By building a cooperative system with the Air Force, we will further develop BIM technology to improve facility management efficiency not only for civilian airports but also for military airports."
