DL E&C Wins Innovation Award in BIM and Railway Fields at Smart Construction Challenge

DL E&C announced on the 3rd that it received two Innovation Awards at the '2024 Smart Construction Challenge' awards ceremony recently hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The Smart Construction Challenge is an awards ceremony organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to promote and spread smart construction technologies. Innovation Awards are given by evaluating advanced technologies that can make construction sites safer and more efficient in the fields of Building Information Modeling (BIM), railroads, safety management, complexes and housing, and roads.

This year, DL E&C received Innovation Awards in the BIM field for the 'BIM-based Earthwork and Pile Smart Construction Management Solution' and in the railroad field for the 'Emergency Tunnel Vehicle Blocking System.'

First, the BIM-based Earthwork and Pile Smart Construction Management Solution is a technology that allows integrated management from contract acquisition to estimation, construction, and settlement at the early stages of construction. Based on BIM, drones, artificial intelligence (AI), and sensors, it enables thorough construction, safety, and quality management. By utilizing this solution, cost reduction, shortened construction periods, and secured safety and quality can be achieved through ▲3D BIM-based design and estimation ▲drone data-based construction progress management ▲automation of pile penetration and rebound measurement.

The Emergency Tunnel Vehicle Blocking System is a technology applied by DL E&C in the 'Metropolitan Express Railway (GTX) Line A Section 6.' This site passes under the Han River and is the most challenging section to construct among the GTX-A sections.

DL E&C installed an inflator (expandable structure) inside the tunnel to prepare for underground water leakage accidents during tunnel excavation. The inflator expands when underground water leakage occurs, preventing flooding inside the tunnel and securing evacuation time for workers. Since this technology can be applied to various tunnel excavation methods, DL E&C expects it to contribute to creating safer working environments at other sites in the future.

DL E&C also received Innovation Awards in the complexes and housing field and the railroad field at last year’s awards ceremony. The company is leading the industry by actively adopting the latest information technology (IT) for quality and safety management.

A DL E&C official said, "We continue to develop new technologies company-wide based on the industry's highest level of digital technology to ensure customer satisfaction and safety," adding, "We will continue to lead the industry by solving the limitations and challenges of the existing construction industry through smart construction technologies."
