Jongno-gu (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) is making an all-out effort by establishing a snow removal system, including deploying remote snow removal spreaders, to protect citizens' safety from the recent record-breaking heavy snowfall.
The district has deployed a total of 257 fixed and mobile remote snow removal spreaders this year to save time and manpower, and is promoting rapid operations even in blind spots.

Jongno-gu has installed fixed devices at 13 major roads and habitual icing sections such as Bukaksan-ro, Jahamun-ro, Inwangsan-ro, and Naksan-gil to quickly spread calcium chloride and snow removal agents during heavy snowfall.
The 244 mobile devices move through alleys or congested urban areas according to snowfall conditions, supporting efficient operations and preventing traffic congestion.
Additionally, the district has prepared smart IoT (Internet of Things) snow removal boxes. These IoT-enabled snow removal boxes allow real-time monitoring of various data, including the loading amount and usage frequency of calcium chloride and snow removal agents, making management easier and effective for securing inventory in advance.
To enhance the efficiency of snow removal operations, Jongno-gu has introduced and is implementing the ‘Cleaning Officer Sidewalk Snow Removal Zone Responsibility System.’ Officers are responsible for areas where mechanical operations are difficult, such as narrow alleys, to speed up the process.
Snow removal is not limited to roads and sidewalks; the removal of snow from hazardous trees is also essential. Considering the risk of branches breaking or trees falling due to accumulated snow, the district deploys additional equipment and manpower to separately manage hazardous trees and protect citizens' safety.
Mayor Jeong Munheon stated, “While we cannot stop the falling snow, if we prepare thoroughly and respond to heavy snowfall and icing, we can minimize the inconvenience to citizens commuting.” He added, “We will promote multifaceted snow removal measures such as remote snow removal spreaders, IoT snow removal boxes, and hazardous tree management.”
