On the 15th, the Shinyoung Cultural Foundation held the awards ceremony for the architectural work competition "The 4th Shinyoung Cultural Foundation Architecture Award" at Somerset Palace Seoul, aimed at fostering Korean architectural art and culture, the foundation announced on the 18th.

원본보기 아이콘The Shinyoung Cultural Foundation Architecture Award was planned to provide valuable experience and learning opportunities that serve as a stepping stone for domestic university architecture students (graduates or prospective graduates) to grow into experts in the architectural field. The competition targets outstanding graduation works recommended by department heads from 2024 graduation projects. According to the Shinyoung Cultural Foundation, the winning works were selected through a two-stage judging process including document and model evaluation and presentation (PT).
The judging panel included ▲ Kang Yerin, professor of architecture at Seoul National University ▲ Kim Chanjung, CEO of The System Lab ▲ Kim Jeongim, CEO of Seoro Architects ▲ Jung Hyunah, CEO of DIA Architecture ▲ Kim Sooyoung, CEO of Sumbi Architecture.
Over 170 works were submitted for this Architecture Award, and among them, 8 works received honors. The grand prize was awarded to Kim Juik, a student of the Department of Architecture at University of Seoul, for his work "THIRD EYE AWAKEING." This work was recognized for its excellence in the perspective of social integration education and consideration for special education recipients through an architectural building for a school for the visually impaired that maximizes the spatial cognition characteristics of visually impaired people. The excellence award went to Kim Dongkyung from Pukyong National University for "City of Walls and Stairs," and the merit award was given to Kang Changhwan from Seoul National University for "Dismantling." Additionally, 5 works received encouragement awards, and 6 works were awarded honorable mentions.
Kim Juik, the grand prize winner, said, "I have gained confidence in the direction I am heading, and I am happy to feel that I have taken one step closer to my dream of becoming an architect." The winners received a total prize money of 23 million KRW, including 10 million KRW for the grand prize and 5 million KRW for the excellence award. A representative of the Shinyoung Cultural Foundation stated, "Compared to last year, we increased the number of encouragement and honorable mention awards to provide more opportunities for participants," and added, "Students who advanced to the second round of judging, along with the winners, can receive mentoring from the judges."
The Shinyoung Cultural Foundation is a public interest foundation established in 2020 by Shinyoung Group, a comprehensive real estate company, as part of its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management to contribute to society through talent development. It contributes to the development of domestic architectural culture and talent cultivation by sponsoring the production of graduation work catalogs for fine arts colleges and hosting the Shinyoung Art Award and Architecture Award.
