Donald Trump, the winner of the 47th U.S. presidential election, swept all the '7 key battleground states.'
On the 9th (local time), the Associated Press reported that Trump secured an additional 11 electoral votes by winning Arizona.
With 87% of the Arizona vote counted, Trump received 52.6% of the vote, surpassing Vice President Kamala Harris, who had 46.4%.
With this, Trump won all the '7 key battleground states' that were considered decisive in this election.
Trump won early on in the Southern battleground states known as the 'Sun Belt,' including Georgia and North Carolina, and swept the Northern 'Blue Wall' states such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, which were considered the biggest battlegrounds, securing his victory. He then went on to win the remaining battleground states, Nevada and Arizona, consecutively.
In the 2020 election, Trump only won North Carolina among these 7 battleground states and lost the other 6 to President Joe Biden, but he succeeded in overturning the results after four years.
Before the election, many predicted a tight race between Trump and Vice President Harris in the battleground states, but the actual result was a decisive victory for Trump.
Trump ultimately secured a total of 312 electoral votes, far ahead of Vice President Harris, who had 226.
The U.S. presidential election system requires a candidate to win a majority of the 538 total electoral votes (270 or more) to win.
In the 2016 election, when Trump was first elected, he secured 304 electoral votes. However, he lost the popular vote to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at that time. This time, he is leading in the popular vote as well, with 50.5% compared to former Vice President Harris's 48.0%. This is the first time since former President George W. Bush in 2004 that a Republican candidate has won both the electoral college and the popular vote.
