Paju-si Gathers Citizens' Will with 'Peace Economy Special Zone Walking Contest'

Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 5th that it held the "Citizen Walking Contest to Wish for the Attraction of the Peace Economy Special Zone" on the 2nd at the Paju Jangdan Bean Wellbeing Maru Lawn to spread public consensus for attracting the Peace Economy Special Zone.

Hosted by Paju City and organized by Together Road, the walking contest was attended by about 1,000 citizens, including Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju City, who wish for the designation of the special zone.

Since the enactment of the 'Peace Economy Special Zone Act,' Paju City has been continuously conducting projects to spread public consensus for attracting the special zone. It has prepared ways to get closer to citizens to emphasize Paju's value as the optimal site for the Peace Economy Special Zone and to promote the justification for the designation of the special zone.

The walking contest consisted of a round trip of about 1.4 km, starting with an opening ceremony at the Paju Jangdan Bean Wellbeing Maru and moving to the Odusan Unification Observatory Healing Trail. In addition, various experience programs and special performances by local artists added vitality to the event.

Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju said, “I thank the citizens who attended the walking contest wishing for the attraction of the Peace Economy Special Zone, and I will do my best until the day the Peace Economy Special Zone is attracted by gathering the wishes of the citizens.”

Paju City is promoting the 'Peace Economy Special Zone Creation' as one of the core projects to achieve a self-sufficient city of one million people. If the Peace Economy Special Zone is established in Paju, a large-scale industrial complex and tourism special zone can be created, which is expected to contribute to the economic development of Paju and the northern Gyeonggi region and further to the economic growth of the Republic of Korea.

Paju City plans to derive the optimal basic plan through the 'Basic Concept Concrete Study Service.' This year, various promotional activities have been carried out to increase understanding and spread consensus on the creation of the Peace Economy Special Zone, from the talk concert in the first half of the year to this walking contest.
