The Delivery Platform Tenant Win-Win Council announced on the 4th that "Baedal Minjok and Coupang Eats will consider more progressive win-win measures than the existing proposals" regarding the plan to alleviate commission burdens.
The Delivery Platform Tenant Win-Win Council, established to reduce the delivery cost burden on small business owners, held its 10th meeting at 2:30 PM on the same day at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Seoul.
Attendees at the meeting included representatives from delivery platforms such as Baedal Minjok, Coupang Eats, and Yogiyo; tenant organizations including the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business and the Korea Foodservice Industry Association; public interest committee members including external experts; and government officials at the director level from related ministries, including the Secretariat of the Fair Trade Commission, who participated as special committee members.
During this meeting, the council continued discussions with the delivery apps regarding measures to alleviate commission burdens. Baedal Minjok and Coupang Eats stated that they would review more progressive win-win plans based on previously proposed ideas such as the introduction of a 'differential commission rate.'
This method involves classifying tenant businesses within the delivery apps according to their sales volume and imposing relatively lower commission rates on lower-tier businesses with lower sales.
However, it was reported that there remains a gap in views with tenant representatives regarding the specific commission rates.
Accordingly, the council decided to hold an additional meeting on the 7th to continue discussions. Public interest committee members are expected to present a final mediation proposal based on the discussions so far at the next meeting.
