Busan Gijang-gun will step up efforts to comprehensively organize the local cultural distribution industry by initiating an ex officio cancellation procedure targeting cultural distribution businesses that are virtually closed starting from the 4th.
The cultural distribution industry includes ▲karaoke rooms ▲internet computer game facilities ▲youth game provision businesses ▲general game provision businesses ▲complex distribution game businesses, with 115 establishments currently registered in Gijang-gun.
According to relevant laws, when a business ceases operations, the operator must report the closure to the competent local government within 7 days from the date of closure. However, many fail to report, and due to the lack of separate sanctions for non-reporting, the reporting rate remains low.
Additionally, when complaints are filed against such businesses, accurate responses are impossible, and discrepancies in status during various inspections and administrative guidance by Gijang-gun and related agencies (police station, fire station, etc.) lead to administrative inefficiency.
Accordingly, since April, the county has been promoting a comprehensive cleanup of cultural distribution businesses that have not reported closures to enable efficient and systematic management of the cultural distribution industry and to prevent various complaints caused by unreported closures.
By October, a full survey was conducted on 115 local cultural distribution businesses through mail and on-site investigations, confirming that 18 game provision businesses failed to report their closures.
The county plans to post a public notice of the ex officio cancellation on the Gijang-gun website and bulletin board for 20 days from the 4th to the 24th and proceed with the ex officio cancellation.
County Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “This comprehensive cleanup is expected to enable systematic and effective management of the local cultural distribution industry,” adding, “We will continue to promote ongoing management and organization to prevent unnecessary complaints in advance and enhance administrative trust.”
