Kim Jae-yeon, leader of the Progressive Party, stated, "We have started a political campaign called the 'Yoon Seok-yeol (regime) Resignation Referendum' last week across 17 metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide, and we aim to create a nationwide public interest to open the 'Resignation Plaza' by December."
At the 'Progressive Party 7th Anniversary Press Briefing' held on the 30th at the National Assembly Members' Office Building, Kim said, "In August, we officially announced the party's stance to push for the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol," adding, "The Progressive Party will devote all its organizational power and dedication to opening the 'Resignation Plaza'." The Progressive Party has set up over 100 polling stations nationwide, including 9 in Seoul and 16 in Busan, to receive 'resignation votes' from citizens.

He said, "People are feeling disillusioned that our society has not changed much after the Park regime's resignation," and introduced, "On one side of the (resignation) ballot paper, we will ask about the social tasks people hope for after the resignation."
He also shared his reflections on coming in second place by defeating the Democratic Party and the National Innovation Party in a three-way race in the Jeonnam Yeonggwang County mayoral by-election held on the 16th. He said, "This confirmed that the public's desire for change in the Honam political landscape is high," and expressed his ambition to field candidates for all metropolitan local government heads in the 2026 local elections. To this end, "the Progressive Party plans to hold the first round of candidate selection in December," he explained.
Regarding the challenges facing the Progressive Party on its 7th anniversary, Kim said, "I do not think the old-fashioned color attacks are an obstacle for us," and "We clearly affirm that among the parties within the current institutional framework, we are the most progressive party on issues such as environment, feminism, anti-discrimination laws, labor, and agricultural matters." He continued, "If such policies and lines are called left-wing, we consider that a fair evaluation, but we firmly oppose color attacks that go beyond that." However, regarding the achievements over the past seven years, he added, "there are points to reflect on where we have not shown a definite presence as a new political force."
