The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Tae-hee) announced on the 27th that it will hold the ‘Gyeonggi Character Education Lesson Case Sharing Conference’ on the 28th and 30th to strengthen teachers’ practical capabilities in character education and to cultivate students’ basic character.

The ‘Gyeonggi Character Education Lesson Case Sharing Conference’ will be held on the 28th at the Seongnam National Institute for International Education and on the 30th at the Uijeongbu Island Castle, with about 250 participants including teachers from kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as education professionals.

This conference will be conducted through sharing lesson cases and discussions/debates to share and expand cases applying the Gyeonggi character education curriculum in classes.

The Office of Education plans to explore ways to normalize character education with on-site teachers and implement field-centered policies through this event.

The first part of the conference will cover ▲The future direction of Gyeonggi character education ▲Sharing character lesson cases by school level. It will share play-based, play-centered lessons (kindergarten), school autonomous time using the 2022 revised curriculum with the Gyeonggi elementary character textbook (elementary), and cases applying character education programs linked to other subjects related to character virtues (middle school).

It will present kindergarten cases practicing play lessons that naturally embody character virtues, elementary character lessons through non-mandatory subjects during school autonomous time, and character lesson cases applicable by subject in middle and high schools.

The second part will explore field-centered ways to activate character education, including ▲Character education linked to the school curriculum (creating one character brand per school) ▲Classroom management through character education ▲Practical cases of character lessons by subject ▲Stories of character education linked with home and community.

Schools selecting character education as a school autonomous task will present cases of relationship-centered classroom management through character education, character lessons conducted in middle and high school classes, and character education linked with home and community, followed by discussions on activation plans.

Additionally, a booklet of character education lesson cases by school level incorporating edutech will be distributed to share the future direction of character education lessons.

Lee Ji-myeong, Director of the Life Character Education Division at the Office of Education, said, “By sharing lesson cases within the educational community, teachers’ capabilities in character education will be strengthened, and character education will naturally permeate lessons, helping students cultivate their character. We will actively support teachers so they can practice character education linked with the curriculum.”
