Pohang City successfully concluded the "4th Pohang Traditional Market Excellent Products Expo," held from the 25th to the 27th at Yeongildae Beach area.
Hosted by Pohang City and organized by the Pohang Traditional Market Merchants Association, this event was designed to promote the food offerings of traditional markets in Pohang and revitalize the local economy.
The opening ceremony on the 25th was attended by about 500 people, including Jang Jong-yong, Mayor of Buk-gu, Pohang City, Lee Jae-jin, Vice Chairman of the Pohang City Council, local city and provincial council members, heads of major institutions and organizations, and local merchants' association presidents.
During the three-day event, the expo venue operated promotional and sales booths for traditional markets, as well as a food market showcasing excellent local delicacies, contributing to increased sales in traditional markets and local commercial districts.
Additionally, cultural performances such as the Traditional Market Singing Contest, Dance King Competition, and popular singer performances, along with participatory events like traditional games experience zones and face painting, captivated visitors.
Moreover, in preparation for the kimchi-making season, high-quality kimchi ingredients such as radish, red pepper powder, and salted seafood were sold at special discounted prices through direct sourcing from production areas, receiving positive responses from citizens struggling with high prices.
Heo Chang-ho, President of the Pohang Traditional Market Merchants Association, said, "With this event bringing together Pohang's traditional markets and blending merchants and citizens, I hope it will revitalize the traditional markets and foster greater unity among merchants."
A Pohang City official stated, "We hope this expo has not only promoted mutual exchange between traditional market merchants and consumers but also led to the revitalization of traditional markets as a pillar of the local economy," adding, "We will continue to strive to highlight the excellence of Pohang's traditional market products through various programs."
