Uijeongbu City Hosts 'Seogye Academic and Cultural Festival' to Reexamine Park Sedaeng and Suraksan Seokcheonjeongsa

Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 22nd that an academic and cultural festival reexamining the late Joseon Dynasty Silhak scholar Seogye Park Sedaeng (1629?1703) and Seokcheonjeongsa Pavilion in Suraksan will be held on the 24th at the Seogye Park Sedaeng Sarangchae located in Jangam-dong.


Hosted by the Seogye Cultural Foundation (Chairman Park Yong-woo) and organized by the Seogye Academic and Cultural Festival Promotion Committee (Chairman Kim In-geol), this event was prepared to revisit the achievements of Seogye Park Sedaeng, one of Uijeongbu’s representative historical figures, and to reassess the value of Seokchon-dong.


The festival will begin with a performance by the Uijeongbu City Dance Troupe (Director Lee Mi-sook), followed by an academic symposium chaired by Professor Kim Ki-deok of Konkuk University. Professor Kim Hak-su of the Academy of Korean Studies and Professor Kim Nam-yong of Shinhan University will present on “Seokcheon-dong as a space for nurturing and practicing loyalty” and “Reevaluating the value of Seokcheonjeongsa Pavilion,” respectively.


The comprehensive discussion will include Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member Oh Seok-gyu, Professor Han Do-hyun of the Academy of Korean Studies, Professor Lim Seung-hee of Shinhan University, Kim Hae-young, president of the Hongjae Thought Research Association, and Park Jeong-geun, secretary general of the Uijeongbu Cultural Center.
