Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Seo Tae-won) announced on the 21st that it took the first step toward community-led educational innovation by signing an agreement with Jojong High School on the 18th to promote the ‘Autonomous Public High School 2.0’ initiative.
‘Autonomous Public High School 2.0’ is a model that autonomously operates educational programs such as curricula and teacher personnel management by region to improve the local educational environment. Unlike the existing autonomous public high schools, this model allows schools to independently run specialized educational programs in collaboration with various local entities such as local governments, universities, and businesses.
Through this agreement, Jojong High School plans to advance beyond a conventional public high school by actively utilizing local human and material resources. Upon selection as an ‘Autonomous Public High School 2.0,’ the school will freely design and offer specialized programs in humanities, science, artificial intelligence (AI), as well as career experience programs, basic academic support, and advanced learning programs that students desire.
The main points of this agreement include △ cooperation to improve local educational conditions △ creation of educational living conditions △ guarantee of autonomy in operating regionally specialized curricula.
Kim Jong-shin, principal of Jojong High School, said, “It takes two hands to clap,” and added, “We will actively strive to have Jojong High School, a rural public high school, selected as an ‘Autonomous Public High School 2.0’ to realize the vision of nurturing talents who grow together with the local community.”
Governor Seo Tae-won stated, “The future of our region depends on our students,” and expressed hope that “through this agreement, Jojong High School will become a new turning point by maximizing the use of local resources to provide the best education to students.”
