The ceremony was attended by President Yoon Seok-yeol, families of this year's police heroes, families of fallen police officers, public safety cooperation organizations, on-duty police officers, and new trainees.
The Police Day ceremony was held under the theme "The People's Police Who Fulfill Their Responsibilities, A Safe and Fair Republic of Korea." Sergeant Choi Ah-young and Sergeant Lee Jae-seung, who were selected for the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics Safety Support Team and were dispatched to Paris, France, returned and recited the oath to the national flag. The singing of the national anthem was led by four officers, including Corporal Choi Nu-ri, who arrested a total of 188 suspects involved in a no-capital gap investment scheme that defrauded jeonse deposits, and Sergeant Kwak Sang-wook, who apprehended suspects selling deepfake sexual videos through a paid Telegram channel.
This year's police heroes were the late Sergeant Na Seong-ju and Sergeant Jang Jin-hee, who died from gunfire by a spy while tracking armed communist guerrillas who appeared in Buyeo-gun, Chungnam in 1995, and the late Lieutenant Shim Jae-ho and Corporal Lee Jae-hyun, who were fatally attacked with a weapon while apprehending a suspect in a violent crime at a coffee shop in Mapo, Seoul in 2004.
Commissioner Jo Ji-ho of the National Police Agency said, "The noble spirit of sacrifice of countless heroes who have been with us throughout the 79-year history of the Korean police will be forever remembered as the symbol of the police and in the hearts of the people," adding, "The Korean police will take the path walked by these heroes as a mirror and devote all efforts to becoming 'the people's police who fulfill their responsibilities.'"
