Donald Trump, the former U.S. president and Republican presidential candidate, stated that imposing ultra-high tariffs of 150-200% would be sufficient to prevent China's blockade of Taiwan.
According to the U.S. daily Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 18th (local time), in a recent interview, former President Trump was asked how to persuade Chinese President Xi Jinping not to blockade Taiwan, to which he replied, "It's very easy."
He said, "I would say, 'If you (President Xi) enter Taiwan, I will impose a tariff of 150-200% on you.'"
When a WSJ editor asked whether he would use military force in response to China's blockade of Taiwan, former President Trump said, "I don't think that will be necessary," adding, "He respects me and knows that I am crazy."
Furthermore, Trump said, "I had a very strong relationship with him (Xi Jinping)," and "He was actually really nice, and I got along very well with him."
He continued, "He stayed with me at Mar-a-Lago (resort in Florida), so we got to know each other well," adding, "He is a very fierce person."
