Dongducheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Park Hyung-deok) and Korea Electric Power Corporation Northern Gyeonggi Headquarters (Head Jeong Chi-kyo) announced on the 17th that they signed a "Smart Wildfire Management Joint Response Agreement" at Dongducheon City Hall on the 16th.
Through this agreement, the two organizations plan to actively utilize their resources, information, and networks to establish a cooperative system for wildfire prevention and protection of power facilities.
The main contents of the agreement include ▲ mutual sharing of wildfire surveillance video information ▲ promotion of cooperative projects to establish an early wildfire response system ▲ joint inspection of the system before the special wildfire countermeasure period.
The early wildfire response system was developed to respond quickly to wildfire disasters using artificial intelligence technology.
In the future, using KEPCO's transmission towers and communication networks, the closed-circuit videos installed in Dongducheon for wildfire surveillance will be analyzed through an AI-based system to detect wildfires. This process is expected to significantly reduce costs and achieve very high accuracy.
Mayor Park Hyung-deok said, "The cooperation between the two organizations will greatly contribute not only to protecting citizens' lives and property from wildfires but also to preserving forest resources and the stable operation of power facilities," adding, "With wildfires becoming larger and more frequent due to recent climate change, this agreement will hold meaningful and important significance."
