Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 17th that it has been finally selected for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's '2025 Signboard Improvement Project' contest, securing approximately 200 million KRW in national funding.

The Signboard Improvement Project selects suitable sites annually through local government contests to create pleasant living spaces for residents and revitalize local commercial districts by harmoniously and beautifully improving signboards.

This contest received 47 project applications from local governments nationwide, with 23 projects ultimately selected. The city will actively promote the signboard improvement project targeting about 40 businesses in Uijeongbu Jeil Market, the representative commercial district.

Starting with this year's project briefing session, from January next year, the city plans to collaborate with a resident council composed of the Commercial District Revitalization Foundation and Jeil Market merchants, as well as a local design team consisting of design professionals, to develop designs and complete installation work by December to finish the project.

Meanwhile, from next year, the city will implement the 'Pre-Notification System and Closure Notification System' to prevent the proliferation of illegal advertisements by providing prior guidance before installing advertisements or upon business closure, and will strictly manage post-project effects by additionally designating specific outdoor advertising zones to enhance the project's effectiveness.

Lee Gu, Director of the Urban Housing Bureau, stated, "We will continue to encourage voluntary participation from residents to build capacity for improving the city's aesthetics together with citizens," adding, "We will actively strive to create distinctive and beautiful streets in the city."
