Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) removed illegal street stalls at the entrance of Jayang Traditional Market on the 26th of last month without any physical confrontation.
Since the 8th term of the elected administration began, street stalls occupying various locations have been extensively cleared. A total of 88 street stalls located near Guui Station, Gangbyeon Station, and Guui Park, which had long caused inconvenience to residents due to traffic, noise, and hygiene issues, were reorganized.
The same applies here. The area that had occupied the south gate of Jayang Traditional Market and set up stalls for over 30 years was cleaned up. After repeated "removal and reinstallation," continuous dialogue and persuasion finally gained the consent of the operator.
The operator made a fresh start by renting a store inside Jayang Traditional Market. They proudly began operating as the owner of a vegetable shop about 10 pyeong in size. In particular, Kim Kyung-ho, the mayor of Gwangjin-gu, personally visited to congratulate the opening and wish for success, adding a warm touch.
Kim Kyung-ho, mayor of Gwangjin-gu, stated, “Based on a principle-driven street stall policy, we will continue to organize illegal street stalls in the area and support livelihood-type street vendors to make a fresh start within the framework of the law.” He added, “We will do our best to create a safe and pleasant pedestrian environment going forward.”
The district announced that it will closely collaborate with related departments to strengthen patrols and monitoring to prevent street stalls from reappearing at the locations where they were removed.
