Amid ongoing controversy over the leakage of the 2025 academic year Yonsei University early admission essay exam questions, the Ministry of Education announced that it has held the university accountable for the responsible parties and requested thorough management to prevent recurrence.
On the 15th, the Ministry of Education issued a statement saying, "It is the university's responsibility to conduct college admissions fairly," and added, "Regarding the 2025 early admission question leakage controversy, it is necessary to promptly ascertain the exact facts, including how the leak occurred."
It continued, "We urged the university to accurately and swiftly investigate the circumstances, and understand that the university is taking the matter seriously by requesting a police investigation and conducting its own inquiry," and explained, "We requested the university to strictly hold those responsible for the leak accountable based on the results and to implement thorough management to ensure such incidents do not happen again."
Earlier, on the 12th, at a test site where the Yonsei University early admission natural sciences essay exam was held, a mistake by a proctor led to the exam papers being distributed about an hour before the exam started and then collected, raising suspicions that some of the questions were leaked online during this process.
After the exam, photos of the natural sciences exam questions and practice answers for the humanities exam, apparently taken by test-takers, were shared on online communities.
Yonsei University announced that it would request a police investigation that day. President Yoon Suk-yeol also instructed Lee Ju-ho, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, during the 44th Cabinet meeting held at the Yongsan Presidential Office in the morning to ascertain the facts and "thoroughly hold those responsible accountable and take strict measures to prevent recurrence," spokesperson Jung Hye-jeon conveyed.
