Busan Gijang-gun was recently selected as an excellent institution in the '2024 Small Stream Maintenance Project Best Practices' contest hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, receiving a commendation (encouragement) from the Minister of the Interior and Safety.

The 'Small Stream Maintenance Project Best Practices Contest' was conducted nationwide targeting 229 cities, counties, and districts to discover institutions that have made efforts in securing stable flood control functions and improving residents' living environments in small streams over the past five years ('19?'23), and to share best practices.

The county achieved success by receiving a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety as the 'Samseongcheon Maintenance Project,' an urban stream connecting Ilgwang New Town to Ilgwang Beach, was selected as a best practice.

In particular, the efforts of Gijang-gun were externally recognized for natural-friendly stream maintenance and creating healing spaces for residents, as the project received high evaluations for improving the walking environment by connecting disconnected walking trails and providing resident-friendly waterfront spaces through the creation of 'yeoul' and 'so' (shallow pools and small water basins).

County Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “To ensure that all residents can enjoy healing spaces alongside nature-friendly streams, we will continuously expand stream walking trails and waterfront spaces.”

Samseongcheon is a small stream with a total length of 1,609 meters connecting Ilgwang New Town to Ilgwang Beach. The county completed maintenance on about a 720-meter section around Ilgwang New Town, selected as the best practice, by investing approximately 1 billion KRW. For the remaining section, 1.9 billion KRW has been secured, and construction is underway with the goal of completion in the first half of next year.
