Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) announced on the 15th that it will hold an academic conference titled "Practical Measures for the UNESCO World Heritage Registration of Goryeo History and Exploration of Its Archival Value."

The conference, co-hosted by Dong-A University's Seokdang Academy (Director Kim Jin-kyung), Seoul National University's Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies (Director Jeong Geung-sik), and Yonsei University's Academic and Cultural Affairs Library (Director Nam Hye-hyun), and organized by the Korean Bibliographical Society and the Korean Medieval History Society, will take place on the 18th at the Shinyang Hall of the College of Humanities, Seoul National University.

Goryeo History is regarded as an essential resource for Korean studies, serving as a fundamental historical source for researching and understanding the politics, economy, society, and culture of the Goryeo period. It is also considered a key medium that comprehensively encapsulates and conveys the historical and cultural realities of Goryeo society, Asian regional societies, and Russia to the present day.

In 2021, the editions of "Goryeo History" held by Dong-A University's Seokdang Museum, Seoul National University's Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies, and Yonsei University's Academic and Cultural Affairs Library were designated as national treasures, officially recognizing their archival value at the national level. Efforts to have them recognized as UNESCO World Heritage records have been steadily ongoing.

At this academic conference, a business agreement will also be signed among the three universities that hold editions of "Goryeo History": Dong-A University's Seokdang Museum (Director Kim Ki-soo), Seoul National University's Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies (Director Jeong Geung-sik), and Yonsei University's Academic and Cultural Affairs (Director Nam Hye-hyun).

Following the signing ceremony, presentations and a comprehensive discussion will be held, including topics such as ▲ The Value of UNESCO World Heritage and "Goryeo History" (Park Jong-gi, Kookmin University) ▲ Editions of "Goryeo History" and Their World Heritage Archival Value (Park Moon-yeol, Cheongju University) ▲ Criteria and Procedures for UNESCO World Heritage Registration (Kang Moon-sik, Soongsil University).

Kim Jin-kyung, Director of Dong-A University's Seokdang Academy, stated, "The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty were registered as a UNESCO World Heritage in 1997, and in 2022, the Samguk Yusa was confirmed as a UNESCO Asia-Pacific Regional Memory of the World. We believe there is a strong possibility that Goryeo History can also be recognized as a universal archival heritage of global significance." He added, "Through this academic conference and the signing of the business agreement among the three universities, we hope to reach concrete steps toward the registration of Goryeo History as a World Heritage record, along with the solidarity of the holders of Goryeo History."

Dong-A University Seokdang Institute will hold an academic conference on the 18th to register the treasure 'Goryeosa' with UNESCO.
