Seongdong-gu, Seoul announced that it has finalized the 2025 Seongdong-gu living wage at 11,779 KRW per hour.
The living wage system ensures that workers receive wages above the statutory minimum wage to guarantee a minimum standard of humane and cultural living conditions.
The ‘Seongdong-gu Living Wage Committee’ held a living wage review on September 30 and decided the next year’s living wage to be 11,779 KRW per hour. The living wage was determined by comprehensively considering the district’s financial conditions, economic situation, and fairness with Seoul city and other autonomous districts. Based on a 40-hour workweek and 209 hours per month, this corresponds to a monthly salary of 2,461,811 KRW.
Compared to the 2024 living wage of 11,436 KRW, this is a 3% increase, rising by 343 KRW, and it is 1,749 KRW higher than the government’s announced minimum wage for next year of 10,030 KRW per hour in August.
The living wage applies to approximately 1,340 workers affiliated with Seongdong-gu Office, Seongdong-gu Urban Management Corporation, Seongdong Cultural Foundation, and Seongdong Future Job Corporation, the largest number among Seoul’s 25 autonomous districts. The finalized Seongdong-gu living wage will be applied for one year starting from January 1 of next year.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “I hope the increase in next year’s living wage will greatly help stabilize workers’ lives,” and added, “We will do our best to further expand the scope of living wage application so that workers’ quality of life can be improved.”
