Gijang-gun Dementia Relief Center Holds Dementia Awareness Day Event... "Residents Respond Positively"

Gijang-gun (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced on the 10th that the Gijang-gun Dementia Relief Center recently operated a 'Dementia Overcoming Week' to commemorate Dementia Overcoming Day and to create a dementia-friendly community.

'Dementia Overcoming Day' is a statutory memorial day designated on September 21 every year, and this year marks its 17th anniversary. The county designated the period from September 9 to September 27 as Dementia Overcoming Week and organized various programs to promote the importance of dementia prevention and management, as well as to foster a sense of empathy for overcoming dementia.

During this period, a variety of programs were conducted, including 'On-site Cognitive Screening Tests' for local senior centers, and 'Dementia Awareness Improvement Education and Campaigns' in connection with dementia-safe villages and apartment complexes. The county also actively promoted Dementia Overcoming Day through various media such as the county website, social media, and electronic billboards.

Additionally, new dementia relief partner stores were designated by encouraging local business owners to actively participate in the care of dementia patients and the establishment of a dementia safety network.

At Daehappyhan General Social Welfare Center, dementia-safe villages, and other locations, 'Dementia Awareness Improvement Campaigns' were held, featuring activities such as writing hopeful messages for overcoming dementia, dementia knowledge quizzes, and exhibitions of works created by senior participants in the programs, all of which received a great response from residents.

Residents who participated in the programs said, "I was curious about how to manage dementia, and through this education, I learned various prevention methods, making it a very beneficial experience," and added, "The dementia knowledge quiz helped correct misunderstandings I had about dementia."

An official from the Gijang-gun Public Health Center said, "We hope that this Dementia Overcoming Week event will serve as an opportunity for local residents to increase their interest in dementia."

The Gijang County Dementia Relief Center is conducting education in observance of "Dementia Overcoming Day."
