The final number of residents accepted in the second half of this year was 73. About 76% of the successful candidates were residents from the Seoul, Gangwon, Gyeonggi, and Incheon regions.
According to data submitted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare to Rep. Baek Hye-ryun of the Democratic Party on the 10th, the number of residents selected in the second half of this year at training hospitals nationwide was 73 (15 interns and 58 residents). Including additional recruitment, a total of 125 residents applied for training in the second half of this year, resulting in a pass rate of 58.4%.
This is similar to previous years. The pass rate in the second half of last year was 59.4%, and in the second half of 2022, it was 60.1%.
Among these 125 applicants, about 52 (42%) applied to the "Big 5" hospitals. However, according to the medical community, there were no final successful candidates in the second half recruitment at Severance Hospital and Seoul Asan Medical Center. The Catholic Central Medical Center, Samsung Seoul Hospital, and Seoul National University Hospital did not disclose the number of successful candidates.
Meanwhile, among the 73 residents selected in the second half, 56 (76.7%) were from the Seoul, Gangwon, Gyeonggi, and Incheon regions. Only 7 residents were selected from the Busan, Ulsan, Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeongnam regions, and 5 each from the Gwangju, Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, Jeju regions and the Chungbuk, Chungnam, Daejeon, Sejong regions.
By specialty, internal medicine had the highest number with 9 residents. Psychiatry and orthopedics each had 6 residents. There were no residents selected in cardiothoracic surgery, urology, tuberculosis, nuclear medicine, occupational and environmental medicine, or preventive medicine.
