Gyeonggi Province held the 3rd quarter comprehensive inspection meeting of the Gyeonggi Northern Large-scale Development Task Force (TF) on the 7th to review the progress of the 'Gyeonggi Northern Large-scale Development'.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 8th that it held the 3rd quarter comprehensive inspection meeting of the Gyeonggi Northern Region Grand Development Task Force (TF) on the 7th to review the progress of the ‘Gyeonggi Northern Region Grand Development’ project.
Since the announcement of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province vision by Governor Kim Dong-yeon on September 25 last year, the Gyeonggi Northern Region Grand Development TF, organized into five subcommittees, has been exclusively responsible for implementing the 2040 Gyeonggi Northern Region Development Plan. This meeting was the third comprehensive meeting held following the one at the end of June. It reviewed the overall progress and plans of the Gyeonggi Northern Region Grand Development and specifically discussed concrete action plans for the key tasks of the Gyeonggi Northern Region Grand Remodeling Project.
Looking at the agenda discussed by each subcommittee, the ‘Balanced Development Subcommittee’ discussed ▲promotion of designation of Opportunity Development Zones ▲additional designation of border areas in Gapyeong-gun ▲promotion of the creation of the Gyeonggi Northern Techno Valley ▲advancement of the Yangju Gwangseok residential land development district project, among others.
In particular, progress was shared regarding the construction of an innovation center to revitalize the Yangju Techno Valley. The expansion of the 1st Gwangsa Bridge was selected as a new project under the 2025 Special Situation Area Development Project, securing 7.2 billion KRW in national funding. It is expected to facilitate smooth logistics flow connecting Yangju Techno Valley and surrounding areas and achieve excellent results in attracting companies.
The ‘Residential Environment Subcommittee’ reviewed the progress of improvement plans for residential conditions, including ▲promotion of establishing a public medical center in the northeastern region ▲formulation of measures to revitalize public transportation in the northern Gyeonggi area ▲exploration of plans to activate education in northern Gyeonggi.
The northeastern public medical center, with Namyangju-si and Yangju-si selected as project sites, will be built as an innovative public hospital concept that expands beyond basic medical services to include care services. It plans to conduct feasibility studies and preliminary feasibility investigations aiming for groundbreaking around 2030.
The ‘Infrastructure Subcommittee’ discussed early expansion plans for transportation infrastructure in northern Gyeonggi, including ▲extension of high-speed rail (KTX, SRT, etc.) to northern Gyeonggi ▲1.5 ring expressway upgrade in northern Gyeonggi ▲river maintenance and creation of waterfront parks.
The extension and establishment of high-speed rail to northern Gyeonggi need to be reflected in the 5th National Railroad Network Construction Plan. Since the SRT Uijeongbu extension is linked with the GTX-C project, a pre-feasibility study will be conducted to review various promotion methods.
The ‘Future & Economy Subcommittee’ presented an accelerated plan for public development focusing on large-scale investment attraction, including ▲creation and sale of industrial complexes and expansion of industrial complex RE100 ▲establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern AI Cluster ▲promotion of the exhibition and convention industry ▲consulting and IR for attracting promising companies ▲support for fostering the green bio industry ▲creation of the Economic Free Zone (Goyang JDS District). On November 7, an investment briefing session for potential investors will be held in Samseong-dong, Seoul, where opinions from companies regarding their interests and difficulties in investment attraction will be collected to promote customized investment attraction in the future.
The ‘Tourism & Environment Subcommittee’ reviewed tasks including ▲promotion of the northern region pet theme park creation ▲conceptualization of content for the Peace Economy Special Zone ▲support plans for revitalizing tourism in northern Gyeonggi.
The northern region pet theme park to be created in Dongducheon-si is expected to begin construction and be completed within the 8th local government term, as the city is conducting regular consultations on key issues such as shortening administrative procedures and gathering local residents’ opinions.
Oh Hu-seok, Deputy Governor of Administration of Gyeonggi Province, emphasized, “It is difficult for private companies to invest in the northern Gyeonggi region. If there are companies willing to invest, we need to identify the factors hindering investment and prepare support measures that Gyeonggi Province can provide so that we can move forward together.”
