On the 4th, Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced that starting from the first bus on the 1st, the operation system of four city bus routes has been changed to a public management system, which is expected to greatly improve convenience for citizens.
Until now, citizens have experienced inconvenience due to reduced operation rates caused by financial difficulties and poor management of transportation companies. However, with the additional transition of four city bus routes?30, 31, 70, and 90?to the public management system, the city bus route system is expected to operate more stably.
Paju City accelerated the transition to the public transportation public management system by converting a total of four routes: starting with routes 10 and 70-1 in January, route 12 in July, and route 11-1 in September.
In particular, as of August, just half a year after introducing the public management system, the average operation rate of bus routes increased by 35% compared to the previous year to 98%, and the intervals between buses were also operated consistently. The newly converted routes are also expected to have similar effects.
Paju City is also in the process of selecting new transportation companies after reclaiming routes 9 (2 buses), 80 (7 buses), 150 (11 buses), 567 (11 buses), and 900 (8 buses), which had very low operation rates and caused increased inconvenience to citizens, aiming to start operation this year. These routes will also be operated under the public management system to improve both the quantity and quality of public transportation services. Some routes are expected to have their paths changed for operational efficiency, and detailed information will be disclosed on Paju City’s website before the start of operation.
Kim Kyung-il, Mayor of Paju City, stated, “We will do our best not only to successfully implement the city bus public management system but also to enhance citizens’ convenience in using public transportation.”
