10·16 By-election Competition Rate 3.8 to 1... Four Candidates Registered for Seoul Superintendent of Education

The National Election Commission announced on the 27th that 19 candidates have registered in five constituencies for the by-elections and re-elections scheduled for the 16th of next month, recording an average competition rate of 3.8 to 1.


Four candidates?Yun Hosang, Jeong Geunsik, Jo Jeonhyeok, and Choi Boseon (in alphabetical order)?have run in the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education by-election.


Three candidates have registered for the Busan Geumjeong District Mayor by-election: Kim Gyeongji of the Democratic Party, Yun Ilhyeon of the People Power Party, and Ryu Jesung of the Party for National Innovation.


Four candidates are running in the Incheon Ganghwa County Governor by-election: Han Yeonhee of the Democratic Party, Park Yongcheol of the People Power Party, and independents Kim Byeongyeon and An Sangsu.


Four candidates are running in the Jeonnam Gokseong County Governor re-election: Jo Sangrae of the Democratic Party, Choi Bongui of the People Power Party, Park Ungdu of the Party for National Innovation, and independent Lee Seongro. Four candidates are also running in the Jeonnam Yeonggwang County Governor re-election: Jang Seil of the Democratic Party, Jang Hyeon of the Party for National Innovation, Lee Seokha of the Progressive Party, and independent Oh Giwon.


In the superintendent of education elections, political parties do not recommend candidates, and there are no candidate numbers. In the by-elections and re-elections for basic local government heads, according to the Public Official Election Act, the Democratic Party received candidate number 1, the People Power Party number 2, and the Party for National Innovation number 3, based on the number of seats. Parties without seats are assigned numbers in alphabetical order of party names, and independent candidates’ numbers are determined by lottery.
