Now in its 8th year, this event is held annually to share culture and arts through sign language, improve social awareness of the deaf community, and broaden empathy for deaf culture. The slogan was "Sign Language is Harmony." The festival created a time for the deaf and non-deaf to come together and share understanding and empathy for deaf culture.
At the event, awards were presented to meritorious individuals who contributed to the promotion of human rights for the deaf and welfare for people with disabilities. Various experience booths, sign language presentations, performances, and other diverse programs that people with and without disabilities could enjoy together were held. It also provided a special opportunity for family visitors to learn sign language and experience the culture of the deaf community.
Lee Hyun-seok, Director of the Jeonju Sign Language Interpretation Center, said, "This cultural festival will be a valuable foundation for the deaf and non-deaf to communicate and understand each other's cultures," adding, "We will continue our efforts to promote the value of deaf culture."
Park Eun-joo, Director of the Disability Welfare Division, said, "Jeonju City will continue to strive to broaden correct understanding of deaf culture and sign language and provide opportunities for people with hearing and speech disabilities to actively participate in society."
