A Stick on the Road? Approaching Reveals a Person's Leg... 80s Rescued Thanks to Police's Sharp Eyesight

A story has recently come to light about an elderly man who collapsed on the road while collecting scrap paper in the sweltering heat and was rescued thanks to the sharp eyes of the police.

Recently, a video titled "Seen from a moving patrol car. Human legs in the grass!?" was uploaded on the YouTube account 'Republic of Korea National Police Agency.' The video shows police officers on traffic patrol on National Road 36 in Daesowon-myeon, Chungju, Chungbuk, on the 30th of last month, when a heatwave advisory was issued. They discovered and rescued an elderly man in his 80s, Mr. A, who had collapsed on the roadside.

In the patrol car's black box footage, the police officer driving on the road spots an object on the right side of the road that looks like a stick and turns the car around to check it out. The officer gets out of the vehicle to inspect the object and then finds Mr. A lying collapsed. At that time, Mr. A had collapsed in the grass due to heat-related illness after walking around collecting scrap paper in the hot weather.

Mr. A was in a critical condition, barely conscious. The police helped him to stand and moved him to the patrol car. Once inside the cool patrol car, Mr. A gradually began to regain strength, and the police contacted his guardian to hand him over safely.

Lieutenant Jae-hyuk Lee of the Chungju Police Station Traffic Division, who rescued Mr. A, said, "While on traffic accident prevention patrol, I saw an object resembling a leg in the grass at the edge of the right side of the road." He added, "I had a strange feeling and decided not to pass by without checking. When I rushed to the scene, I was shocked to find the elderly man collapsed face down in the grass."

He continued, "When I got closer, the elderly man was conscious but his body was stiffening," and recalled, "I only thought about the need to rescue him quickly."
