A current female police officer who harbored resentment after encountering a male facility manager fixing a leak in the women's swimming pool changing room and repeatedly posted malicious comments on an internet cafe was sentenced to a fine.
According to the legal community on the 18th, the Supreme Court's 2nd Division (Presiding Justice Kim Sang-hwan) finalized the original court ruling on the 23rd of last month, sentencing Mr. Lee, in his 40s, who was indicted for defamation and obstruction of business, to a fine of 3 million won.
Officer Lee was charged with defaming the swimming pool staff and obstructing the swimming pool's operations by posting 185 times on internet cafes from September to October 2021, claiming that "a swimming pool employee used the excuse of work to unlawfully enter the women's changing room and peep at the naked female members."
It was investigated that on September 2 of the same year, Lee encountered a man in his 60s who was repairing facilities together with female cleaners in the women's changing room of the swimming pool, and after protesting to the swimming pool management but not receiving a proper apology, she left such posts. The police dismissed the sexual violence charges against the employee on September 29 of the same year, but Lee continued to repeatedly post the same content afterward.
The first and second trial courts recognized Lee's charges as guilty and sentenced her to a fine of 3 million won. Most of the content Lee posted was false, and the courts also acknowledged the intent to defame based on her claim that "the swimming pool should be shut down."
Lee appealed, but the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, ruling that there was no error in the second trial's decision.
