Teenagers who repeatedly committed sexual harassment and violence against their juniors have been sentenced to suspended prison terms.
According to the legal community on the 16th, the Cheonan Branch of the Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 1 (Presiding Judge Jeon Kyungho) sentenced two individuals, including A (19), who were indicted without detention on charges of violating the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Abuse (forcible molestation), to one year in prison with a two-year suspension, and ordered them to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures. B (19), who was indicted together, was fined 5 million won.
While they were third-year members of their high school taekwondo team last February, they were brought to trial on charges of grabbing the genitals of three first-year juniors living in the dormitory, putting cigarette butts on their hands, and harassing them with punitive drills.
The court stated, "The crimes were committed continuously and repeatedly, and the methods and means were sadistic, clearly exceeding the boundaries of a prank," adding, "Although some victims' guardians are petitioning for severe punishment, considering various circumstances, it is deemed appropriate to give the defendants an opportunity to live as healthy members of society this time."
