Junggu Daegu Selects Kim Younghwan with 45 Years of Experience as 'Master Shoemaker'

Jung-gu District in Daegu (District Mayor Ryu Kyuhwa) announced on the 13th that Kim Younghwan of "Ribe Shoes," with 45 years of experience, has been selected as the 6th Master Shoemaker of 2024.


The Jung-gu District Office in Daegu accepted applications from August 13 to 23 from artisans who have worked in the handmade shoe industry for over 20 years and have been crafting shoes in Jung-gu for at least 5 years. After a document review and a technical demonstration, the selection was made based on craftsmanship, technical skills, and other factors to choose the Master Shoemaker.

Kim Younghwan, who was selected as the Master Shoemaker, possesses an original technique that applies unique stitching methods to leather, adding meticulous detail and individuality.


To widely promote the master who has contributed to the traditional handmade shoe industry and the revitalization of the local economy, Jung-gu District will present a certificate of recognition to the Master Shoemaker at the opening ceremony of the "11th Red Shoes Story" festival, which will be held on the 28th at the Handmade Shoe Alley parking lot in Hyangchon-dong, Jung-gu (next to the Hyangchon Culture Center). A plaque designating "6th Master Shoemaker" will also be attached to the master's shop.
