Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Showcase Rice Processed Products and Abalone Fish Cakes

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo presided over a Cabinet meeting where a 'Chuseok Livelihood Gift Set' made a surprise appearance.


The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced that they directly introduced the 'Chuseok Livelihood Gift Set,' sold at up to 50% discounted prices to ease consumer burdens and promote consumption, to the Cabinet members at the meeting held on the 3rd.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs introduced rice-processed products such as bagels and cookies made from powdered rice, a new preferred food ingredient, and plant-based rice beverages, while the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries showcased processed seafood products like fish cakes and yanggaeng made from abalone and seaweed. At the event, Minister Song Mi-ryeong of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Minister Kang Do-hyung of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries proposed using the livelihood gift sets, composed of products for ancestral rites and items needing consumption promotion, to share warmth with loved ones this Chuseok.


Prime Minister Han said, "I hope that through the livelihood gift sets this Chuseok, warm hearts will be conveyed, and that it will serve as an opportunity to understand and overcome the difficulties faced by rural and fishing communities together." He added, "I ask for your participation to ensure that the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in composing the livelihood gift sets to promote the consumption of agricultural and marine products will bear fruit, and to accelerate our efforts for the people's livelihood."


On this day, Cabinet members tasted various snacks including rice-processed products such as Sikhye (sweet rice drink), traditional Korean sweets, red bean rice bagels, and cookies, as well as processed seafood products like dried abalone slices, abalone fish cakes, and seaweed crisps. The Cabinet members evaluated, "Newly developed products such as snacks made from powdered rice and yanggaeng made from seaweed will be widely loved across generations and become a new growth engine in the food market."


Minister Song said, "I want to actively promote our high-quality agricultural and food products at the Cabinet meeting, the nation's highest decision-making body that attracts media attention, to provide practical help to our farmers who are struggling due to falling prices at production sites." She urged, "As products using powdered rice are becoming more diverse, I ask Cabinet members to take great interest."


Minister Kang also said, "I hope that through the livelihood gift sets prepared this time, the public will be able to enjoy our seafood products at more affordable prices." He added, "I expect this to provide some help to our fishing households suffering from reduced consumption, and I ask for the Cabinet members' cooperation so that excellent seafood products can be widely loved."
