The government is reported to be planning to approve a proposal to designate the 76th Armed Forces Day (October 1) as a temporary public holiday at the Cabinet meeting.
A senior government official said on the 3rd, "At today's Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, the proposal to designate this year's Armed Forces Day as a temporary public holiday will be submitted, reviewed, and approved," adding, "If the proposal passes the Cabinet meeting, the President is expected to immediately give final approval."

원본보기 아이콘President Yoon is known to have determined that designating a temporary public holiday is necessary for the purpose of encouraging the military and boosting consumption after reviewing various opinions. Last year, President Yoon also gave final approval on the afternoon of the same day immediately after the Cabinet meeting passed the proposal to designate October 2 as a temporary public holiday.
Earlier, the People Power Party requested the government to designate this year's Armed Forces Day as a temporary public holiday through a high-level party-government consultation meeting on the 25th of last month.
