Real-Time Battery Temperature and Performance Monitoring... BMW Remote Management Service Draws Attention

Proactive Care Monitoring

As concerns over electric vehicle fires grow, monitoring functions utilizing connected vehicle services are gaining attention.

BMW monitors vehicles through its ‘Proactive Care’ for preemptive vehicle management. This service allows real-time checking of battery temperature, chargeable level, and maximum performance figures when charging electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids, notifying the driver accordingly.

Abnormal vehicle conditions are categorized into four levels, with notifications delivered accordingly. For issues that drivers can resolve themselves or that can be addressed with service in the near future, messages are sent via the dedicated application (MyBMW app), email, or the control display. Even when immediate action is not required, this ensures drivers are sufficiently aware of the problem to take timely measures.

For urgent matters, the company’s responsible department (BMW Proactive Care Team) calls the customer immediately. To minimize customer inconvenience, towing or emergency dispatch services are provided if necessary. Depending on the situation, guidance for service center visits or assistance with reservations is offered.

Error codes can also be checked remotely. This allows skipping additional diagnostic processes and preemptively securing necessary parts. BMW currently has solutions for 109 error patterns.

Recalls related to software can also be handled wirelessly. The company plans to perform both functional tests for future malfunctions and software-related measures remotely. The after-sales service technology will continue to improve so that customers only need to visit service centers when direct work such as consumable replacement or part exchange is required.
