A thief in Rome, Italy was caught by local police while reading a book in a house he had broken into.

On the 28th (local time), according to the British BBC and others, a thief who recently broke into a house in the Prati area of Rome was caught while reading a book related to Greek mythology during the crime.

The thief in his 30s, who entered through the balcony at the time, saw a book placed on the bedside table and began reading it as if mesmerized. During police investigation, the thief reportedly stated, "I entered to meet someone I know." However, it was reported that the bag the thief was carrying at the time of arrest contained expensive clothes stolen from another place.

The book the thief was reading is Gli dei alle sei (Gods at Six O'clock) written by Giovanni Nucci. Nucci is a scholar who has studied Greek mythology for over 20 years, and the book reconstructs the ancient Greco-Roman epic Iliad from the perspective of the gods.

Upon hearing the news, Nucci said, "It's fantastic," and added, "Since he was caught while reading the book, I want to gift him the book so he can finish reading it." He further introduced the book as "a surreal story but at the same time full of humanity."

Nucci also named the thief's god Hermes as his favorite god. He joked, "Hermes also liked literature. Everything fits perfectly."
