Wanju County Council Holds 'Regional Balanced Development Policy Seminar'

Participation of Four Season Experts, Discussion on Local Government Response Strategies

The Wanju County Council in Jeonbuk (Chairman Yu Uisik) announced on the 22nd that it held a "Policy Seminar on Local Government Response Strategies for Regional Balanced Development" in the council's cultural lecture room.


According to the county council, the seminar was jointly hosted by the Wanju County Council, Jeonbuk Professors and Researchers Association, Jeonbuk Innovation Policy Space, and Regional Innovation Policy Network. About 30 experts, including members of the Wanju County Council and the Jeonbuk Professors and Researchers Association, attended the seminar.


The seminar proceeded in the order of ▲Basic presentation on current issues of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province (Wanju-Jeonju win-win development direction) ▲Thematic presentations such as the great transformation of decentralized balanced development ▲Comprehensive discussion.

The first session was led by Professor Yoon Taebeom (Korea National Open University), who addressed "The Great Transformation of Decentralized Balanced Development," and the second session featured CEO Lee Byungyong (Sustainable City Research Institute) presenting "Response Strategies for the Inevitable Future Crisis and Resolving Regional Disparities."


Following that, in the third and fourth sessions, Professor Cheon Hoseong (Jeonju National University of Education) presented on "The Start of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and the Role of Education," and Professor Kim Seongwang (Wonkwang University, Co-Executive Director of Jeonbuk Innovation Policy Space) spoke on "Prerequisites for Win-Win Cooperation by Region in Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province."


After the presentations, a lively discussion based on data-driven regional balanced development measures took place, chaired by Professor Lee Giwon (Hallym University, Representative of Regional Innovation Policy Network), with experts including Professor Kim Jeongsu (Jeonju University) and Professor Kim Seokjun (Wonkwang Health Science University, Secretary-General of the National Professors and Researchers Association) participating.


Operation Committee Chairperson Lee Sundeok said, "Due to the concentration of population, income, and all economic and social sectors in the metropolitan area, the extinction of local areas is accelerating," adding, "I hope this policy seminar will be an opportunity to reflect on past policies, appreciate their value, and gather strength for a leap forward."


Councilor Seo Namyong expressed, "I hope that new alternatives and policies will be created for the elevation of Wanju County to city status, the balanced development of Jeonbuk, and the regional balanced development of our country."
