American electric vehicle company Tesla is recalling about 9,000 Model X vehicles in the United States to replace certain parts.

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on the 21st (local time), Tesla is recalling 2016 Model X vehicles due to an issue where roof pieces can detach from the vehicle. The affected vehicles are 9,136 units produced between September 2015 and July 2016. The estimated defect rate is about 10%. Tesla plans to test the adhesive strength of the roof trim at service centers and reattach the trim pieces free of charge if necessary.

NHTSA stated, "The decorative trim pieces (appliques) on the front and center roof of the vehicle are attached without adhesive, which can cause one or both trim pieces to detach from the vehicle," adding, "This poses a danger to following drivers and increases the risk of collision accidents."

Tesla explained that it first recognized this issue in 2020 and had already conducted a recall, but after investigation, it found that the previous measures were insufficient, leading to this new recall. The company said it has received about 170 reports and repair requests related to this issue so far, but no accidents or injuries have been reported yet.

It is rare for Tesla to conduct recalls involving physical part replacements or repairs. Most of Tesla's recalls have been carried out through software updates.

According to Bizika, a recall management platform developer, Tesla recalled a total of 2.6 million vehicles in the United States for safety issues in the first six months of this year. This is the second highest number following Ford Motor Company, which recalled a total of 3.6 million vehicles during the same period.
