On the 21st (local time), the UK Home Office announced plans to send back immigrants without legal residence status in the UK, including asylum seekers who were denied, to their home countries at the highest level since 2018 over the next six months.

The Telegraph predicted that under this border reinforcement measure, the number of deportations over the next half year will exceed 14,500. This new border reinforcement measure was announced. The past deportation figures were 32,720 annually in 2017, and 14,385 in the second half of last year, the highest in seven years.

The Home Office explained that since the launch of the Keir Starmer government, nine flights deporting illegal immigrants have operated over about six weeks, with one flight carrying more than 200 people.

It also announced that two centers for detaining illegal entrants until they are sent back to their home countries will be reopened, adding capacity for 290 people by the end of the year.

Additionally, the Home Office plans to deploy about 100 new intelligence officers and investigators under the National Crime Agency (NCA) to respond to organized crime related to human smuggling.

The Starmer government promised during the general election campaign to abolish the previous Conservative government's Rwanda policy for asylum seekers and pledged to address illegal entry issues by strengthening crackdowns on human smuggling organizations.
