Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 21st that, in collaboration with the Lee Sunhwan Governance, it has established collection points for small and medium-sized waste home appliances at apartment complexes and village units, and set up a system to collect them on the second week of every month to promote recycling of waste home appliances.
Previously, small and medium-sized waste home appliances had to be five or more units to qualify for free collection, so citizens had to bear disposal costs such as waste stickers when disposing of one or two units. However, the city explained that from now on, if these are disposed of at the collection points, they can be processed free of charge regardless of the quantity.
Villages and apartment complexes wishing to establish collection points can submit an application to the city's Resource Circulation Division. For disposing of five or more large or small and medium-sized waste home appliances, citizens can apply for the free home collection service.
A Pyeongtaek city official expressed expectations that "with the establishment of these collection points, citizens will be able to dispose of small and medium-sized waste home appliances free of charge, which will improve resource circulation efficiency."
