JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential candidate and senator, stated on the 18th (local time) that Vice President Kamala Harris leading former President Donald Trump in recent presidential election polls is due to "polls tending to be extremely exaggerated by the Democratic Party."
In an interview with Fox News that day, Vance referred to the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections and said, "Many polls conducted in the summer of 2020 and 2016 were wrong on election day." He claimed, "In 2016 and 2020, the media used fake polls to lower Republican voter turnout and create discord and conflict among Republican voters."
Using the term 'sugar high' (a temporary state of excitement), he mentioned that Vice President Harris's approval rating temporarily rose a few weeks ago. He added, "When talking to insiders in the Harris camp, they are worried about the current situation," emphasizing, "Former President Trump is currently in a very good position. We are very confident that we will be in the right position in November."
Regarding the Washington Post and ABC's poll results released that day showing Vice President Harris holding a nationwide lead over former President Trump in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup, he said, "ABC and the Washington Post were very inaccurate in the summer of 2020."
On foreign policy, Vance aligned with former President Trump's stance, saying, "The United States is not the world's police." He stated, "There should be no free lunch for Europe or anyone else," and added, "The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) should be a military alliance where Germany, France, and all other countries pay their fair share, rather than relying on U.S. tax subsidies."
He emphasized, "We want NATO to be a real alliance," and said, "The way for Europe to become a true ally is to pay the necessary costs so that the U.S. can focus on China, which is the most urgent diplomatic challenge."
Regarding Vice President Harris's economic policies, including her response to inflation, he compared her to the 'billionaire sex offender' Jeffrey Epstein. Vance said, "Giving Harris control over inflation policy is like giving Epstein control over human trafficking policy."
He stressed, "Americans do not believe Harris will solve the inflation crisis tomorrow in a way she did not during her 1,300 days as vice president." He criticized, "Harris's day one was three and a half years ago," and said, "Because of everything she has done, economic growth issues have worsened."
