After completing the nationwide primary elections of the Democratic Party of Korea, candidate Lee Jae-myung maintained an overwhelming lead with 89.9% in the party leader race. In the Supreme Council member race, candidate Kim Min-seok, who rose in the middle of the race, held first place, while candidate Jeong Bong-ju, who was first in the early stages, fell to third place behind candidate Kim Byung-joo.
On the 17th, according to the cumulative nationwide online voting results for party members compiled by the Democratic Party, candidate Lee Jae-myung received 335,000 votes, securing first place. Following him, candidate Kim Du-kwan received 32,369 votes (8.7%) for second place, and candidate Kim Ji-soo received 5,283 votes (1.4%) for third place.
In the Supreme Council member race, which received more attention than the party leader race, candidate Kim Min-seok obtained 140,514 votes (18.6%) to maintain first place. Candidate Kim Byung-joo was second with 107,878 votes (14.3%), and candidate Jeong Bong-ju was third with 106,899 votes (14.2%). Following them, candidate Han Jun-ho was fourth with 103,974 votes (13.8%), and candidate Jeon Hyun-hee was fifth with 96,193 votes (12.8%). Candidate Lee Eon-ju was sixth with 86,198 votes (11.4%), candidate Min Hyung-bae was seventh with 74,649 votes (9.9%), and candidate Kang Seon-hoo was eighth with 38,095 votes (5.1%). Only the top five Supreme Council members will be elected.
The Democratic Party will finalize the selection of the next leadership at the nationwide party members' meeting held tomorrow at the KSPO Dome in Olympic Park, Songpa-gu, Seoul, by reflecting 56% of party members' votes, 14% of delegates' votes, and 30% of general public opinion polls. The ARS (automatic response system) voting for party members who could not participate in the online voting, delegate voting, and general public opinion poll results will be disclosed all at once at the party convention.
At the joint speech meeting held at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul on the same day, the online voting results of Seoul party members showed candidate Lee Jae-myung winning first place with 92.4%. Candidate Kim Du-kwan received 6.3%, and candidate Kim Ji-soo received 1.3% respectively.
In the Supreme Council member election, candidate Kim Min-seok took first place with 20.9%. Following him, candidate Jeon Hyun-hee was second with 17.4%, candidate Kim Byung-joo was third with 15.3%, candidate Han Jun-ho was fourth with 14.3%, and candidate Lee Eon-ju was fifth with 10.9%. Candidate Jeong, who led the early stages of the Supreme Council member race, received 8.6% and placed sixth, affected by recent controversies. Candidate Min Hyung-bae was seventh with 7.5%, and candidate Kang Seon-woo was eighth with 5.1%.
The overseas Korean party members' voting results were also announced. In the party leader race, candidate Lee Jae-myung overwhelmingly took first place with 99.2%, followed by candidate Kim Du-kwan with 0.8% in second place. In the Supreme Council member election, candidate Kim Min-seok was first with 21.3%, candidate Kim Byung-joo was second with 16.9%, and candidate Jeon Hyun-hee was third with 15.4%. Following them were candidate Han Jun-ho (14.4%), candidate Lee Eon-ju (10.3%), candidate Jeong Bong-ju (9.9%), candidate Min Hyung-bae (8.6%), and candidate Kang Seon-woo (3.2%).
