After being designated as a specialized secondary battery cluster in July last year, Ulsan City has been solidifying its position as a hub for the secondary battery industry through a series of successful investment attractions.
On the morning of the 12th at 10:30 a.m., the city will hold a completion ceremony for the new Shinhung SEC Ulsan Plant, a production facility for safety device parts for secondary batteries, located in the Bancheon General Industrial Complex (Eonyang-eup, Ulju-gun), which is part of the specialized cluster.
The event will be attended by Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, Ulju County Governor Lee Soon-geol, Kim Ik-hyun, Vice President of Samsung SDI Co., Ltd., as well as representatives from secondary battery companies, Shinhung SEC CEO Hwang Man-yong, executives and employees, totaling over 200 participants.
Shinhung SEC, headquartered in Osan, Gyeonggi Province, entered the secondary battery business early and has continued to grow by steadily accumulating technology. In addition to the Ulsan plant, the company operates secondary battery parts (safety device) production facilities in Gijang, Busan and Yangsan, Gyeongnam.
The Ulsan plant was established on a 13,000-square-meter site within the Bancheon General Industrial Complex, with a total investment of 80.4 billion KRW (11 billion for construction, 62 billion for equipment, and 7.4 billion for labor environment improvement facilities).
After signing an investment agreement with Ulsan City for the establishment of a secondary battery parts production plant in August last year, construction began in September and the completion ceremony is being held today.
Notably, the plant was originally scheduled for completion in December of this year, but thanks to prompt administrative and financial support from Ulsan City and Ulju County, it was completed four months ahead of schedule. The Ulsan plant can produce up to 5 million safety device parts for prismatic secondary batteries per month.
All produced parts will be supplied to StarPlus Energy, a joint venture between Samsung SDI and Stellantis Automotive located in Indiana, USA. In the future, the company also plans to supply parts to various domestic and international industries utilizing secondary batteries, including electric vehicles.
Ulsan City expects that the completion of the Ulsan plant will create more than 200 new jobs.
Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom stated, "With the completion of the Shinhung SEC Ulsan Plant, which produces secondary battery parts, the ecosystem covering the entire secondary battery industry cycle, centered on Samsung SDI, has been further strengthened. We will do our best to support the secondary battery industry, a core future industry for Ulsan, so that the city can grow into a key hub for the secondary battery sector."
