The 25th World Korea Forum will be held for two days starting from the 14th in Istanbul, Turkey.
The International Korea Foundation is hosting the World Korea Forum with Istanbul Technical University under the theme "Global Great Transformation and the Korean Peninsula's Response." It is expected to be a venue where domestic and international experts discuss multifaceted measures for peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula.
The forum will be attended by Moon Jung-in, Honorary Special Professor at Yonsei University (former Special Advisor to the President on Unification, Foreign Affairs, and Security), Jang Sung-jang, Director of the Sejong Institute, Kim Joo-hyun, former President of Hyundai Research Institute, and Kim Sung-min, Honorary Professor at Konkuk University. Over 100 experts related to Korean Peninsula unification, diplomacy, and security from 32 countries worldwide, including John Nielsen Wright, Professor at Cambridge University, and Si In-hong, Chairman of the Academic Committee at Renmin University of China, as well as experts from the United States, China, and Europe, will also attend in large numbers.
Joseph DeTrani, former U.S. Special Envoy for North Korea (Professor at the University of Missouri), will emphasize in his opening speech that "the escalation of tensions on the Korean Peninsula by North Korea poses a serious threat not only to South Korea but also to Northeast Asia and the international community," and that "in addition to bringing North Korea back to negotiations for the peaceful resolution of the nuclear issue, more measures are needed to halt the escalation of tensions on the Peninsula."
Lee Chang-joo, Chairman of the World Korea Forum, said, "Under the global international environment where a new Cold War is being reproduced due to hegemonic competition, alliance fandom, and the rise of international politics, I hope that Istanbul, which teaches coexistence and cooperation connecting East and West with the theses of exchange, cooperation, peace, and coexistence, will establish a milestone for peace and prosperity."
