The district signed a business agreement with the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education, Daejeon Eastern District Office of Education, and Saeil Elementary School in July and applied for the school complex facility contest to the Ministry of Education.
With this selection, the project will receive a total budget support of 17.5 billion KRW out of the total 25 billion KRW required for the school complex facility.
The (tentatively named) Saeil Complex Cultural Center is planned to be built on the Saeil Elementary School site with a total floor area of 4,300 square meters, consisting of two basement floors and one ground floor. The first basement floor will house a survival swimming center, parking lot, and library, while the ground floor will include a library, book cafe, and after-school care classroom.
The library will connect the first basement and ground floors, with a character sculpture installed outside to attract local residents' attention, and a variable space inside designed for various uses.
The after-school care classroom will incorporate green smart classroom and eco-friendly architectural techniques, aiming to create a user-centered design and a future-oriented space where students will want to stay.
The construction of the school complex facility is scheduled to undergo architectural planning and detailed design in 2025, start construction in 2026, and be completed in 2028.
Choi Chungkyu, Mayor of Daedeok-gu, said, "With the selection of this school complex facility project, we expect improvements in the educational, cultural, and sports environment for students and residents. We will continue to improve the residential environment so that Daedeok-gu becomes a district where residents enjoy their daily lives."
