Tesla Withdraws Plans to Establish Electric Vehicle Factory in Southeast Asia, Including Thailand

U.S. electric vehicle company Tesla has reportedly halted plans to establish factories in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, and decided to focus solely on building charging stations instead.

On the 8th, Thai news portal The Nation reported, citing government sources, that Tesla has withdrawn its plan to build an electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Thailand. The source explained, "Currently, discussions with Tesla are only about expanding charging stations."


The outlet added that Tesla is also suspending factory construction plans in other Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia.


Earlier, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin of Thailand had stated that Tesla was surveying three potential factory sites in Thailand and was expected to invest more than $5 billion in the first quarter of this year.
