Gijang County in Busan to Strengthen Employment and Startup Skills for Low-Income Youth... Launches 'Youth Growth Booster Project'

Promotion of Youth Independence for Those Under 40

Gijang-gun in Busan is launching the ‘Youth Growth Booster Project’ to strengthen the employment and entrepreneurship capabilities of local low-income youth.

This project utilizes the county’s self-sufficiency fund to promote the independence of young recipients of basic livelihood security who are capable of working. It has been underway as a consignment project at the Gijang Regional Self-Sufficiency Center from April to December this year.

The county is providing a variety of capacity-building education programs for participants under the age of 40 in the self-sufficiency work program at the Gijang Regional Self-Sufficiency Center. These include: ▲TCI (Temperament and Character Inventory) tests for self-understanding and identifying strengths ▲conversation skills for smooth communication ▲resume writing techniques ▲interview skills training, and more.

In addition, the project offers professional certification courses that are directly linked to employment and entrepreneurship, such as ▲barista ▲forklift operator ▲cake designer, which are receiving positive responses from participants.

For young participants who wish to start their own businesses in the future, the county will provide personalized start-up consulting and coaching through expert matching. The county plans to expand youth participation through the discovery of various support programs and ongoing promotional efforts.

County Governor Jeong Jongbok pledged, “We will actively support young participants in self-sufficiency work by discovering various programs that can help them develop practical employment and entrepreneurship skills, so that youth in difficult circumstances can realize their dreams of employment and starting a business.”

The Gijang Regional Self-Sufficiency Center is a specialized institution that supports the self-sufficiency and independence of low-income residents. It operates programs such as ▲self-sufficiency work projects ▲youth independence challenge projects ▲self-sufficiency case management ▲asset-building support ▲gateway projects ▲food bank projects, and currently about 120 people are participating in 15 self-sufficiency work teams.
