Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will hold the “16th Boseong Jeoneo Festival” from August 16 to 17 at the Yulpo Pine Forest Beach area under the theme “Five Years of Waiting! Welcome Jeoneo! Friend, Let’s Go to Boseong!”
Marking its 16th year, the Boseong Jeoneo Festival had not been held due to COVID-19 and other reasons until last year, but it will be held again after five years, hosted by the Hoecheon Residents’ Association (Chairman Moon Jong-bok).
Featuring Jeoneo (gizzard shad) raised in the clean mudflats of Deukryang Bay, the festival plans to stimulate visitors’ senses with various events such as Jeoneo catching and grilling experiences, Jeoneo dish tastings, celebratory performances, and singing contests.
On the first day of the festival, August 16, the program will begin at 5 p.m. with a pre-ceremony performance, followed by the opening ceremony, Jeoneo food tasting event, and a gathering event for tourists.
On August 17, anyone can participate in the Jeoneo catching experience, Jeoneo grilling experience, and tasting event for a participation fee of 10,000 won. From 3 p.m., a singing contest related to the Jeoneo Festival will be held on a special stage.
In particular, the hands-on experience at the beach’s net fishing site, where participants catch Jeoneo with their bare hands and grill them immediately, is the highlight of the Boseong Jeoneo Festival, and many tourists are expected to join again this year.
Additionally, from August 15 throughout the festival period, a “Sinto-buri” agricultural products corner and a food market will operate on Yulpo’s Romantic Street.
A Boseong-gun official said, “We will do our best to allow visitors to enjoy the savory true taste of wild Jeoneo from the clean waters of Deukryang Bay, known for its tender texture and rich nutrients.”
Meanwhile, Boseong-gun has established a safety management plan including measures against heatwaves due to rising temperatures and food poisoning prevention, and will conduct joint inspections with public and private sectors before the event to ensure a well-organized festival.
