The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 6th that it will investigate the circumstances surrounding an interview given by An Se-young (Samsung Life), the gold medalist in women's singles badminton at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Once the Olympics conclude, the ministry plans to ascertain the exact facts and review the necessity of appropriate corrective measures based on the findings. An official stated, “We plan to comprehensively examine whether there are areas for improvement in athlete management not only in badminton but also in other sports.”
An Se-young defeated He Bingjiao (China) 2-0 (21-13, 21-16) in the women's singles final held the previous day at the Porte de la Chapelle arena in Paris, France. She won the gold medal in this event for the first time in 28 years since Bang Soo-hyun at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
After the match, she raised concerns about the Korea Badminton Association’s management of athlete injuries, athlete development and training methods, the association’s decision-making system, and participation in competitions. She also said, “At this moment, I feel it might be difficult to continue with the national team (association).”
