The city was first designated as a Lifelong Learning City in 2007, and following the first evaluation cycle in 2021, it has now been re-designated in the second evaluation cycle.
In particular, the city reportedly received high marks in this evaluation for its systematic operations, such as establishing a comprehensive mid- to long-term development plan for lifelong education, hiring additional lifelong education professionals and supporting capacity building, realizing learner autonomy that reflects citizens' needs, and providing space and cooperation for learning clubs.
Mayor Park Sangdon stated, "Through the second cycle evaluation for lifelong learning city re-designation, we have once again assessed the city's lifelong education projects," and added, "We will incorporate areas for improvement into the mid- to long-term development plan for lifelong learning currently being established this year, and strive to make Cheonan a more advanced lifelong learning city."
